Residency/Commission for TJIW at Furman University, April 5-10, 2022
Honored to have been commissioned to create a new work with the Furman U Percussion Ensemble during this residency with bandmate Val Jeanty. We worked with the students over the course of the week to create a piece that utilized cutting-edge music tech tools (such as FSR pads and Sensory Percussion) and built on traditional Indian and Haitian Folk rhythms.

Sunken Cages at Lincoln Center, New York City: Restart Stages (Damrosch Park) on July 30th

Beyond excited to have my debut at New York City’s Lincoln Center in July!
Presented in collaboration with the Asian American Arts Alliance:
The Memory of Water is a full-length creative collaboration between beat-based experimental artist Ravish Momin, performing as Sunken Cages with guest dancer Ishita Mili, and composer/performer Migiwa “Miggy” Miyajima and quintet. Memory addresses the power of oceans, with visuals depicting how water shapes our lives and music that evokes memories of the Japanese waters and the tenacious resiliency of the 2011 tsunami survivors. The performance culminates with the world premiere of “The Golden Miracles,” composed by Miyajima, featuring a blending of Sunken Cages’ beguiling visual and electronic textures alongside the acoustics of Miyajima’s ensemble. “Miracles” is a dedication to all American immigrants, the ancestors of today’s New Yorkers, who came here from beyond our immediate waters.

Super proud of this record, a culmination of a decade’s work on configuring the right blend of electronic/ acoustic vibes. From having worked with avant-legend Kalaparusha Maurice McIntyre (RIP) to being on a label with forward-thinking musicians/producers from around the globe. Taking to heart the AACM motto of ‘Ancient to the Future’..

Interspecifics (live-coding ensemble) and DZNA (a forward thinking electronic/jazz duo)
–also psyched to see the legendary Nicole M. Mitchell, Tatsu Aoki , Dereck Higgins , and producer EMB Dilo (Reunion island) amongst the other artists I already know, curated directly by the label

Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore chose Turning Jewels Into Water for his ‘Best of 2020’ Playlist
I was in total disbelief to find out that my childhood hero not only listened to a track I wrote, mixed, and produced, but also found it worthy of his “Best of 2020 Playlist”
What a way to end the year!
